Personal Flip Face Book DIY : Emotional Intelligence

How to Make Personal Faces Flip Book of Your Children:

You can alternatively use laminated cards with circular faces if you do not want to take photos of your children. This can be done for psychological purposes, playing and/or for general parenting. First take a series of photos of each of the kids in common feelings/emotional states:

  • Calm
  • Sad
  • Excited
  • Scared
  • Tired/Sleepy
  • Confused
  • Disappointed
  • Happy
  • Angry
  • Sick

Make prints of the photos. Glue the photo prints onto 4″x6″ foam sheets (dollar store). Punch holes at the top – for the rings to hold everything together as a “Flip book of Faces.” Then make a cardboard stand – about 4″ x 6.5″ – a little longer than the foam sheets. The base was 3″ deep, with a fold in the middle.

How to Use The Face Book & Variations:

  • Faces of family members – This could get funny! Especially if you insert each photo into a plastic photo slip that can be colored on with dry erase markers – kids could change the feelings/emotional states of the photos!
  • Social skills training – teach kids to recognize facial cues so they know how to respond appropriately.
  • Mood indicator
  • Feelings Restaurant Menu for Play: “I would like to order Sad, please.”
  • Imitation of their own facial expressions.
